Welcome to my Blog!
Hello everyone and welcome to my new blog! You might have seen me posting a lot more consistently on my Instagram page (@katiebassoon) this month after taking a much needed break during the pandemic. I am very excited to be back and to finally get this project off the ground and running!
First of all, this month I updated my website to SquareSpace. I am so happy with how SquareSpace has worked out so far and how professional katiebassoon.com looks now. If you saw my old website, you probably saw that I also had a blog section on that website too. After putting off starting a blog for a few years now, I am very excited to finally be starting this project with some help.
The Covid pandemic has been a struggle for everyone over the last 5 months, especially with most summer internships, festivals, camps, etc. being cancelled. As my plans to attend a summer music festival and such were being cancelled, a project through my college, Baldwin Wallace University, caught my attention. BW’s Center for Innovation and Growth (CIG) started a program called the Start Something Summer Grind (SSSG) where students would be able to work on a project of their choice with help and guidance from BW faculty and a variety of people in the community to network with. That’s where the idea to finally start this blog once and for all was born. The SSSG program has guided me through the process of starting this blog and has led to finally publishing this post, as well as the many more to come.
I wanted to take the time to share with you what I plan on posting about:
Bassoon: Of course, with bassoon in the name I have to talk about my one true love, the good old bassoon. I have been playing the bassoon for 8 years now, and while I will go over later my story of how I came to the instrument, I am excited to share my knowledge that I have and continue to learn about this unique and challenging instrument. I am hoping to include various topics for beginners through advanced bassoonists on playing the instrument, reed making, care, and excerpts, as well as some history and fun facts so that people can learn more about this lesser known instrument.
(Student) Musician Life: I am hoping to share some more personal information about my experiences as a music major in college and life in general as a musician. I am hoping to share my growth and what I have learned as I try and navigate a life in the music industry.
Bullet Journaling/Planning: I have been doing a form of bujo on and off since about 2017, but it wasn’t until January 2020 that I found a solid plan that works well for me. Last month, I also discovered a system that works great for documenting my bassoon practice. I hope to share with you my system of planning and bujo as inspiration and/or as a model for you to take what you need and build your own planning system.
Misc.: I hope to share with you other topics as well with little surprise posts every once in a while with other hobbies and things that interest me. These include topics such as cooking, meal prepping, yoga, and much more!
I am so excited to begin this journey with you! I plan on posting every Thursday but to stay updated please follow me on social media. You can click the social media icons or click here.
If you have read this far, thank you so much for reading my first blog post. I am so excited for you to join me on this new adventure!
